Guide to Ford Co-Pilot 360™

Ford Co-Pilot 360™

Ford, famous for mass production and affordable cars, is now making driver-assist tech accessible to all. Almost every Ford model has a version of Co-Pilot 360™. Below are some of the features included in this innovative safety system. If you have questions about Co-Pilot 360™, don’t hesitate to call or visit Thornhill Ford in Chapmanville, WV. Our friendly staff will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Pre-collision Assist and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)

Ford provides all the standard active safety functions found in contemporary cars. This includes Pre-collision Assist, also known as forward collision warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). If sensors detect a possible collision with a vehicle or pedestrian, the system will alert the driver with a sound and a visual warning. The brakes will engage automatically if the driver doesn't react quickly enough.

Evasive Steering Assist If braking alone is insufficient, an Evasive Steering Assist can help prevent or reduce the impact of a collision.

Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)

Another feature to check out is the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). It's also known as blind spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert. With this system, a little icon pops up on the side mirror if there's a vehicle in your blind spot. The cross-traffic alert gives you a heads-up when you're backing up and another car is coming from the side.

Auto High Beams

Auto high beams work just like you'd imagine. At night, they switch between high and low beams. This gives you better visibility when there's no one in front. It also avoids dazzling other drivers.

Lane-keeping System

The Lane-keeping System, or lane departure warning and assist, alerts you if your car starts to drift from the lane without signaling. It can even steer the car back on track.

Lane Centering

Lane Keeping and Lane Centering are distinct features within Ford's Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control system, paired with Speed Sign Recognition. While Lane Keeping primarily focuses on preventing the vehicle from drifting out of its lane, Lane Centering goes further by actively steering the vehicle to maintain its position in the center of the lane. What's incredible about vehicles equipped with Lane Centering is that drivers can decide whether to use this advanced technology or stick to lane departure prevention for a smoother and more natural steering experience.

Adaptive Cruise Control

When using adaptive cruise control, you can choose a speed for your vehicle to follow. If a car pops up in front of you, your car will hit the brakes to keep a safe distance. It does a decent job of adjusting to speed limits.

BlueCruise Level 2

Ford has now rolled out its latest active safety features on four key vehicles: the Mustang Mach-E, F-150, Expedition, and F-150 Lightning. Some editions of these trucks and SUVs come with Ford's BlueCruise Level 2 driver assist technology. This system allows hands-free driving on more than 100,000 miles of highways across the United States and Canada.

BlueCruise is better than standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping systems. Its advanced hardware makes it stand out. They include a high-res GPS, three radars (left, right, and center), a windshield camera, and an infrared camera behind the steering wheel that monitors the driver. With the addition of lane-following capability (a new feature for Ford) and once the vehicle is centered in its lane within a Hands-Free Blue Zone, an icon indicating "Hands-Free" appears alongside an image of the vehicle with concentric circles to show that the system is actively monitoring its surroundings.

The driver-monitoring camera ensures safety by detecting if the driver diverts their gaze from the road for too long. In such instances, a warning message pops up on the instrument cluster. If ignored after a second warning, BlueCruise will stop the vehicle. However, the driver can resume BlueCruise by intervening manually. If repeated warnings occur at this level, BlueCruise will be disabled until the vehicle is restarted at a full stop.
